SABLAN LEON GUERRERO
(1927 - 2002)
Founder, President and Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Guam, Guam’s
first locally chartered banking institution, from 1972 to the present. From
an initial capitalization of $1.5 million and an employee base of 13, he brought
the bank’s resources to over $600 million, net profits of approximately
$8 million for 1991, an employee base of over 500 and a shareholder base of
over 3000. Leon Guerrero’s direction and management resulted in the
establishment of Bank of Guam branches throughout Guam, the Commonwealth of
the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Belau, the Republic of the Marshall
Islands, San Francisco, California and a representative office in Tokyo, Japan.
Under his leadership, the Bank of Guam acquired Bank of America branches,
American Savings branches and the Bank of the Orient branch in Guam.
